Nayla (Sanaa Gamil) is a wealthy middle-aged woman living an idle life filled with boredom and futility. Like her bourgeois peers, she is unable to cope with the social transformations sweeping over Cairo. But when she falls in love with Tarek (Hamdy Gheith), a poor student with big ambitions and hopes for the future, her life takes an unexpected turn that seems to finally render it meaningful. Just as she's about to embrace her new persona, she realises that it's already too late. In DAWN OF A NEW DAY, Chahine presents Cairo as a stage for the realisation of socialist ideals and dreams.
